Job Description
Wooden utility pole inspectors are relied upon to identify poles which are no longer fit for service and/or are an immediate public safety hazard. Poles which are fit to remain in service are treated with preventative measures by an Inspector and their crew. Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to
Perform inspection of wood utility poles on power distribution and transmission electrical systems.
Comprehensive visual inspection of each utility pole/structure
Hands-on wood pole inspection including digging, sounding, drilling, measuring, and treating using a variety of hand tools (such as shovels, hammers, drills, resistograph, etc.)
Recording the collected data on an electronic device (laptop/tablet/phone).
Traveling to and working in a variety of settings, from urban to remote, using trucks, 4x4, and side-by-side vehicles.
Requirements
A valid driver's license, driver's abstract and reliable transportation
Being in good physical shape is an asset - you may need to walk/hike several kilometers per day possibly in rough terrain, hand dig large holes in a variety of substrates (including very rough/rocky terrain)
Be able to follow all safety, environmental, quality, and production protocols.
Be capable of working away from home for extended periods of time and possibly working alone.
Use and understand a laptop or tablet
Read, follow, understand, and navigate maps
Use hand tools (such as a hammer and shovel) and small power tools according to Safe Work Procedures
